Whitney's Wild World is just that . . . a little blog to chronicle the crazy times inside my wild world!! We finally made it to a family of 4 and are enjoying every day we have together!! Check up on us to see all that goes on inside Whitney's Wild World . . . . . . .
I am so happy to be guest blogging on my sisters amazing blog!!! I feel the need to document Rylee's first sleepover because #1 it was so fun, #2 it was at MY house, and #3 she did AWESOME.
I've been slowly prepping Rylee to have a sleepover with me and Scott in our new house since Christmas. Scott and I thought it would be fun to get her a "Sleep over kit" complete with jammies, big girl panties, a blanket, hairbrush, toothbrush and toothpaste, and of course BANDAIDS. She loved it and couldn't wait to take it to my house, put it in HER room in HER drawers. ***A little back story about Rylee's room...she came over shortly after we moved in and dubbed our guest room, HERS. And since then Scott and I have actually called it "Rylee's room", it's complete with shabby chic furniture and cute green, pink and yellow floral bedding. So since Christmas we've been trying to prep her and talk up the "sleepover" to see if we could actually get her to do it. When I talk to her on the phone I bribe her with "jumping on the bed and lots of ice cream and popcorn!" if she wanted to come stay the night!
MONTHS of persuading and bribery and we finally got a date on the calendar for the sleepover. I ran to the grocery store and got "green ice cream" and made sure we had movies, popcorn and popsicles. She was telling Whitney that she was excited to sleep in the same room as Turtle and REFUSED to bring pjs from home because she had her own set at my house. So Mom, Dad, Brady and Rylee came over and brought pizza for dinner, we ate and played in the yard with the dogs(tucker and willow) and then came time for Mom, Dad and Brady to go home and the fun to really begin! As they were loading in the car dad says "don't call me at 2 am when she wants Yaya!". I was a terrible sleeper over at that age as was my cousin Courtney, so Dad didn't have much faith in Rylee. So after much ado the sleepover began!
We played in the backyard for a really long time with Rylee spending much of it on our swing that Scott made for her. She did great at learning to love and play with tucker, who is a 107lb chocolate lab who is eye/teeth level with rylee. My favorite part was me telling her that she was The Boss of Tucker and Willowin order for her to not be afraid of him. Later I heard Scott ask her who she was the boss of, she said Willow, Tucker and Momma, "because I tell her not to pick" LOL.
We ate, popcorn(which got spilled on the couch, then the floor), green ice crem, AND a popsicle while watching Rango. She and Scott played in her room and all over the house with the dogs too, at one point she looked at Willow And said "I want a doggie just like this!", I said ask your dad, not your mom! Throughout the evening my mom kept texting asking how things were and if rylee was asleep yet, I kept responding that it was a SLEEPOVER and there were no rules or bedtimes(yup im THAT aunt). She finally went to sleep with me in the room and I snuck out when she fell asleep.
She woke up crying about 3am, mad at me that I had left :( whoops. But a few hours later she woke up happy and ready to make cinnamon rolls with Scott.
Cinnamon Rolls in the backyard!
All in all the sleepover was a raging success and I can't wait to have another one! The relationship that Scott and I share with Rylee is so so special, I hope we continue to be able to do fun things for years to come!
Rylee and I just went to the funnest event ever! The Fancy Nancy Tea!! Rylee got dressed up in her fanciest outfit, bracelets, necklaces, high heels, and she requested extra curly hair and a flower head band.
Rylee's little friend Mackenzie invited us, it was downtown and the Westgate Hotel. They got the new Fancy Nancy book and a bag of fun goodies and a chance to meet Fancy Nancy herself!
She wasn't to big on the peppermint tea but loved the tea sandwiches, tiny desserts, and fruits and scones! It was so fun to see all the little girls all dressed up in the fanciest get up. Decked out from head to toe. Mackenzie's dad had also come with her and her mom, she asked Rylee where her dad was and Rylee replied "my Dada is not fancy enough!" I about died!!!
When Fancy Nancy arrived all the little girls were so excited. She was actually the illustrator of the book but she was really fancy so we just went with it. She read the book very dramatically and then taught them to balance a banana on their head for good posture; because a princess can't balance a book when she is wearing a tiara! She showed them the perfect way to curtsy and put a gummy saver on their pinkie and kept it in the air while drinking their tea. It really was super cute and Rylee loved every minute of it!
Rylee and Mackenzie concentrating on putting the gummy saver on their pinkie.
The girls and Fancy Nancy AKA: Robin Preiss Glasser the illustrator!!
Those blue eye's make most people do a double take, especially me!!
Ooooooohhhh the Brady Man. He is getting cuter and cuter by the minute! I just had all his hair cut off and he still has a mop of hair on that head. His blue eyes are actually getting bluer I think!
We have been doing speech therapy for almost 5 months now and the words are finally coming. We went though all the testing, hearing tests, speech evaluations, a visit to the ENT for possible tubes and then all of a sudden he went from NO words to a bunch of words!! The therapists we are working with are amazing. Rylee's speech therapist is helping us and I swear she is the reason the words are coming. We have Uh-Oh, Nana, Bubble, Buh-Bye, Hi, Thank you, Dada, Ball, Car, Go and Rylee! That is a huge improvement in 5 months. By the way do you see the word Mama in there anywhere?? Me either!
He is loving to play chase with Rylee. He gets behind her, slaps her on the back and yells GO!!
If they are not playing chase, he waits on the couch ready for her to get him. She runs full steam from the kitchen and jumps on him on the couch. He absolutely loves it!! He is beginning to go to Rylee for help if he needs something opened and is eager to hold her hand.
When it's time to calm down both Rylee and Brady love to meld into their Dada and watch a movie!
So crazy how quickly the Brady Man is growing up. Getting into everything is still his greatest MO. He's not big on toys that you ride on. He would much rather kick or throw a ball down the alley and then chase after it. He is still such a lover and can't get enough of his lovie! I can't believe he is going to be 2 so soon :)
Chris got some wild hair this weekend and decided that he wanted to camp in the back yard with the kids. We went to Target bought a tent and the kiddos were beyond excited! Rylee got out her sleeping bag and Chris's sleeping bag and practiced sleeping in it in the living room!!
Brady thought it was his own personal fort and kept running in and out a million times!
What's camping with out s'mores? Actually they only eat the marshmallows. Makes for easier clean up. Rylee likes to set hers on fire then eat the crunchy burnt part and then stick in back in the fire to be charred again. Crazy kid. I'm surprised Brady didn't poke some one's eye out with his stick waving it back and forth.
Aero bed blown up she was ready!
After marshmallow roasting I took B Man inside for bed time. Rylee had her book a handful of flash lights and the game Trouble I zipped them in went inside and shut the door!! I happily layed on the couch and watched a movie all by myself, maybe backyard camping isn't such a bad idea :)
I was so surprised when I woke up the next morning and I was still the only one in my bed. I was pretty sure she would last but you just never know. Chris said she kept asking
"What was that?"
"A neighbor putting away their trash cans"
"What was that?"
"A garage door going up"
"What was that?"
"A garage door going down"
Not exactly the same sounds you would hear in the wilderness if you were camping, more like urban camping!!!
It was a success and Chris was more excited than Rylee!! Next time Brady's going in the tent too :)
The flower fields in Carlsbad are just beautiful and this year they were no exception! We went with Sweeney, Brooks, Jamie and Charlotte. This kids had a great time running through the flowers. I think they were done with all the photo ops!
Brooks (19mo) Rylee (4yr) Brady (21mo)
I'm ready for Brady to start giving my some kind of Cheese face some time soon!
Rylee is getting so much better at "taking care of Brady" She is doing great at hand holding and Brady is much better at holding her hand too!!
Brady took a wrong turn and ended up in the middle of the flowers!!
The best part for Brady was finding a strange man in a golf cart. There was no hesitation on his part at all, he climbed on up and started to honk the horn!!
I love going to the flower fields they are truly beautiful!
I just LOVE spring break in Newport. It is such a wonderful time to be at the beach. Always wondering if we are going to have great weather or shitty weather. We always make two sets of plans, one for good weather which only includes going to the beach and another set of plans for cold weather, usually shopping or Disneyland. Sometimes it is so cold and we want to be on the beach so bad we roll out with our bathing suits on and then lay under our beach towel. This year we had BEAUTIFUL weather. The DeleDonnes have put spring break on their calendar and now they are there too which makes it even more fun.
Rylee loves playing cards with grandpa and anyone else who will let her win. She learned all the suits and cards, she plays Go Fish and Crazy Eights. If by chance she does lose she reluctantly says "Congratulations Grandpa" (very sad head down)
This year her birthday was during Spring break so she got to open more presents. Nini and Grandpa got her a balance bike. It is a tiny bike with no pedals. At first I was very skeptical of this, but after hearing that it really helped every kid I know ride a two wheeler I gave in to Mimi! She was bound and determined to figure it out and by the end of the week she had.
Rylee and her Great-Grandpa riding bikes together . . . how special!!
Meril stoped by with her first grand baby Drew, my friend Megan's new baby boy!
I think this was the first time that Brady actually got to play with Rylee and Jace. They were running up and down the street jumping on and off everyone's porches. He had so much fun running and screaming with the big kids!
Brady is dying to be one of the big kids. He pulled himself up to the table in a regular chair and was ready for dinner!!
It's funny to me that these 2 will keep thier hats on the whole day on the beach but not in the alley at home!
After a long hard beach day!
This year he finally got his first frozen banana from Anne's! I'm not sure what he like more the frozen banana or the empty cone. He looks like the perfect beach boy!
The kiddos are at a perfect age for the beach. Rylee is so self sufficient running in and out of the water by herself or with Jace. Brady, at the is point, has no desire for the water, and for this summer I am totally Ok with that! They were so good in fact and in combination with awesome weather I got completely and totally burned. Not usually what happens to me but I think this was the first time on the beach post kids that I have been able to lay or sit in one spot for longer than 5 min!!
Where ever Brady is you will find this pink and purple watering can in his hand or not further than an arms reach! We should probably get him a blue one right?!?
They still have so much fun together. This picture makes me think of Bryn and Scott. They met at this age, parents were friends and 27 years later MARRIAGE!!
The crew takin' in the rays!
Brady was "gently handing" JJ some sand. JJ thought it was more of a toss!!
Aunt B providing some bubble entertainment!!
I could have this Spring Break every year (minus the burned part). The weather was perfect, the kids were perfect, the company was perfect. It really could not have been any better :)
